Did you enjoy the first Blair Witch Project movie?  If you thought it had anything going for it, you’ll like Paranormal Activity better.  Blair Witch made the woods creepy.  Paranormal Activity makes your house and every creak and bump in the night creepy.  Trailer and plot summary after the jump.  No spoilers that aren’t shown in the trailer.

The movie starts when Micah greets his girlfriend Katie at the front door with the new video camera he’s bought to try to capture whatever has been bothering her during the nights.  She’s convinced she’s been haunted since she was a little girl and the disturbing things happening to her at night seem to be happening more frequently.  Micah isn’t really convinced anything’s happening.  However, when he manages to record some proof that something weird is going on, he really gets into it and wants to try to make it happen more.  And that’s my only complaint about the movie.  Or perhaps more accurately its a complaint about the character.  As more events happen, which he’s able to see on his video, he doesn’t seem to care that she’s terrified and ignores her pleas to quit trying to make more happen.  Perhaps he’s written to be an insensitive prick intentionally, but I kept thinking if anything happens to him, he deserves it.  Additionally, once I saw video proof that something invisible was leaving footprints in my bedroom, I’d be considerably more freaked out than he was.
