LogMeIn Express is a simpler version of LogMeIn’s popular remote desktop software for Windows, which requires no prior installation to work. If you’re the one in your family who provides tech support to the rest, keep this one in mind. LogMeIn’s standard product requires the person who wants to share their computer to install a program that runs at startup and sits in the system tray near the time. This new tool doesn’t require that installation and is started from the LogMeIn Express website. Being the time of year when families are getting together for the holidays, this is a good tool to bring to their attention.
The way this works is that both parties visit the LogMeIn Express site. Person A clicks the “Share” button which downloads a small program that they run. There’s no installation required. That program opens a window with a 12 digit number. Person A, then gives that number to Person B who provides it to the website and clicks “View”.

The standard free LogMeIn program has been a great tool in helping me to troubleshoot my mother’s computer on a spur of the moment call when she’s having trouble, because we’ve previously taken the time to install it. LogMeIn Express will make it easy for me to do the same with other people for whom we haven’t had anything pre-arranged. Hopefully whomever else might want to use it is at least competent enough, and the computer working well enough, to get to the Express website, download and run the program.
The connection is secured using 256-bit SSL encryption and you can share with up to 100 users. The application allows for screen sharing, chat, and file transfer.
