One Last Firefox / Google Toolbar Update (for now)
by walter on Oct.03, 2011, under Firefox
With Firefox’s rapid updates, it’s become increasingly bothersome having to go into that install.rdf file and edit it each time to the current version number (see here). So I tried a little change, and it worked. Instead of updating the maxversion number to just whatever it needed to be, I changed it from “7.0.*” to “*.0.*”. It worked.
Another Reprieve for Google Toolbar and Firefox 6 users
by walter on Sep.16, 2011, under Firefox
Well it looked like Google or Firefox finally did something to completely break the Google Toolbar, but there’s another work around. I’ve written previously here about how to get Google Toolbar working with Firefox 5 and up. But in the last week or so, it became impossible to sign into the toolbar to have access to Google Bookmarks. Here’s a fix for that. (continue reading…)
Google Toolbar fix for FireFox 5 and beyond [Updated]
by walter on Jul.02, 2011, under Firefox
As of today, July 2, 2010, Google hasn’t updated their toolbar for FireFox 5, so installing FF5 disables the toolbar. For some time, LastPass has offered paying users what they refer to as multi-factor authentication systems which overcome these potential breaches. They are now providing non-paying users the benefit of multi-factor authorization with their Grid system. (continue reading…)
Decode Short URLs with Firefox Plugin
by walter on Jan.06, 2010, under Firefox
Short URLs, those randomized web addresses used for space savings and common in Twitter posts, are a big convenience to the Twitter poster because they leave more characters available for the post itself. But where are you going to find yourself after clicking that short URL? Maybe its a Myspace page you have no interest in, or a link to some shady overseas site. If you want to see where you’re going before you click, try the Long URLs Please add-on for Firefox. (continue reading…)
Firefox 3.5 Upgrade Problems
by walter on Jul.06, 2009, under Firefox
A lagging Firefox plug-in that hadn’t been updated for Firefox 3.5 yet has been keeping me from going ahead with the upgrade, but today the plugin was ready so I let the upgrade proceed. It wasn’t painless though. Ordinarily Firefox updates are dead simple, but this one took a little effort to get working again. (continue reading…)
