Use Sed to Edit iTunes Library

itunes sedWhen I rip music, I do it twice.  Once in mp3 format for playback on an iPod and once in flac for playback on my local network via Roku Soundbridge players and the Firefly media server.  iTunes doesn’t support flac, so I can’t make iTunes playlists for those files.  I can, however, make them for the mp3 files which are named identically.  And with a little Linux program called “sed”, I can edit the iTunes library to make Firefly read it to work with the flac files. Converting ALAC to FLAC

flacMy collection of music in ALAC (Apple Lossless) format has served me well, but I’ve decided to convert it all to FLAC format.  With FLAC it should be easier to do the encoding without iTunes but I think it will still be as playable as ALAC with all the devices I’m using.  The question became, How to do it. Subsonic Music Streamer

Use it to share your music with friends, or to listen to your own music while at work.
