Adesso 2.4Ghz Wireless SlimTouch Mini Keyboard

by on Jan.06, 2010, under Home Theater, MythTV, XBMC

Maybe you’ve tried wireless keyboard/mouse devices before.  They’re usually good for 3 or 4 feet but then start to get unreliable.  The Adesso 2.4Ghz Wireless SlimTouch Mini keyboard with integrated touchpad (WKB-4000US) is advertised to reach 100ft.  I’m hopeful it will be useful with my Acer AspireRevo running XBMC. Converting ALAC to FLAC

by on Jul.05, 2009, under Firefly, Soundbridge, Windows

flacMy collection of music in ALAC (Apple Lossless) format has served me well, but I’ve decided to convert it all to FLAC format.  With FLAC it should be easier to do the encoding without iTunes but I think it will still be as playable as ALAC with all the devices I’m using.  The question became, How to do it. Crossfire – iPhone Web App

by on Jun.18, 2009, under Cross Platform, iPhone, Media Streamers

crossfire-buttonI’ve been using the open source Crossfire music streaming web app on my iPhone for awhile now, but a recent update has made it much more reliable. Crossfire requires the Firefly media server be installed and operating on the computer where your music is stored. It then provides a web based interface that you can browse to with the iPhone or iPod Touch to play your music. Basically, it makes it as if your device has unlimited song storage capacity.  No jailbreak process is required. (continue reading…)

by on Jun.07, 2009, under Cross Platform, iPhone, Soundbridge

It’s been perfect weather this weekend and I’ve spent the evenings out on the deck enjoying the breeze and listening to music from a Roku Soundbridge that’s connected to some outdoor speakers.  The catch was having to go back inside to make changes to what was playing or adjust the volume.  I found two solutions without leaving the chaise lounge. pulptuneslogo

I ran across a new iTunes compatible music streamer for the web, called PulpTunes, and thought it looked like it was worth a try.  But after looking at their demo, I decided against it.  While the user interface is pretty, it would be cumbersome with a large collection. (continue reading…)

xbmc

At least a year ago, I got an old used Xbox console and modded it to run linux and installed XBMC.  I used it for awhile to stream video to a TV, then something happened and it got unplugged and I didn’t use it again until now.  The latest XBMC version, Babylon, has been released and I decided to try it again.

Tried fiddling again with MythTV to get it working better and was again stymied by one of those linux things that will raise your blood pressure.  Screen resolution.  Why is choosing a screen resolution so darn difficult?

This looks interesting.  From the Subsonic website “Subsonic is a free, web-based media streamer, providing ubiquitous access to your music.
