Make Lightboxed Images Scale To Screen
by walter on Jan.13, 2010, under Blogging
Lightboxed images on a website are those where when you click on a thumbnail image, they expand into a larger image, usually with a semi-transparent background so you can still see the page behind it. The Lightbox 2 plugins work well and are popular, but don’t have the ability to scale or resize the image if it’s larger than the available screen size, which means that high res digital photos may require scrolling to get to their close or navigation buttons. LastPass Adds Free Grid Protection
by walter on Jan.11, 2010, under Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari
LastPass is a secure online password vault that keeps track of all your various passwords automatically. A vulnerability of LastPass and other similar programs has been from keyloggers and screen capture programs that could capture its single master password to allow a hacker access to all the other passwords. For some time, LastPass has offered paying users what they refer to as multi-factor authentication systems which overcome these potential breaches. They are now providing non-paying users the benefit of multi-factor authorization with their Grid system. (continue reading…)

Decode Short URLs with Firefox Plugin
by walter on Jan.06, 2010, under Firefox
Short URLs, those randomized web addresses used for space savings and common in Twitter posts, are a big convenience to the Twitter poster because they leave more characters available for the post itself. But where are you going to find yourself after clicking that short URL? Maybe its a Myspace page you have no interest in, or a link to some shady overseas site. If you want to see where you’re going before you click, try the Long URLs Please add-on for Firefox. (continue reading…)
Let It Snow Plugin Mods
by walter on Dec.24, 2009, under Blogging
The Let It Snow plugin for WordPress is a nice little plugin to add a snowfall effect. The snow falls just a tad faster than I’d like, even on its slowest setting, but what they heck. I thought it would be nice if it was triggered by date, so its not necessary to remember to turn it off. Snowfall in June would look weird, at least in this part of the world. Adding a date trigger wasn’t hard. [Update: Added another mod so that on New Years Eve, the snow flakes are colored like confetti. And also discovered that snowfall still shows on the simplified WPTouch formatted site on iPhone.] (continue reading…)

by walter on Dec.23, 2009, under Blogging
Since installing the Daily Top 10 Posts (DTTP) plugin, I’d been trying to figure out a way to keep it from counting my own visits. A few hours of thinking on it, and a few aborted attempts over the last week yielded nothing. Then I learned of a wordpress function that made it pretty easy. (continue reading…)

GDE Plugin Test
by walter on Dec.04, 2009, under Blogging
I’d been looking for a good way to embed PDFs and found the Google Document Embedder plugin. It doesn’t actually embed Google Documents, but simply uses the Google Documents viewer to display any compatible format file and provide a download link. PDF shown after the jump (continue reading…)
Test of Decoratr Plugin
by walter on Jun.28, 2009, under Blogging
The decoratr plugin for wordpress sounded interesting, so this is a test of it. The plugin analyzes the content of a post and makes suggestions for photos to put along side the post. Photos come from Flickr. So after the jump, we’ll see what kind of suggestions it makes for a rambling post. (continue reading…)

Readers with iPhones can now see an optimized version of this site thanks to the addiition of the iWPhone plugin. As the opportunity arrives, I may work on changing the color scheme to better match the standard colors.
